Reading /Language Arts

The school faithfully implements the Miami-Dade Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) for both Reading and Language Arts. Consequently, the Reading curriculum is centered on the Florida Standards for Reading.

Instruction focuses on the crucial reading components: oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. K-5 grade students receive a daily minimum of 90 minutes of uninterrupted Reading instruction, as documented in lesson plans and on the master schedule. Middle School students are assigned to the English courses according to their ESOL levels and/or academic status. Advanced courses and Intensive Reading courses are also offered to students based on the student’s individual academic levels.
